Who We Are
Our Mission
Robert Lansing Institute advances an informed understanding of global challenges caused threats to democratic societies, political and diplomatic affairs through reliable research, trusted analysis, and innovative education. We are committed to improving the Euro-Atlantic ability to counter hybrid operations and respond to emerging threats in order to achieve strategic objectives. Robert Lansing Institute for Global Threats and democracies Studies is a non-partisan, non-profit public policy research organization.
Our understanding of geopolitics is that it translates the lessons drawn from history and geography into operational tools. The world is complex and multipolar.
We describe situations and analyze their consequences. Geopolitics is realism that goes beyond ideologies and preferred conclusions – whether in economics, politics or international relations. The tradecraft of the forecasting requires fact- and experience-based assumptions about the future. Therefore, the so-called “common consensus”, which is not based on reality on the ground, must be avoided.
Geopolitics as we practice it is about developing scenarios and allowing for the unexpected. Our scenarios are based on probabilities. We do not merely deliver a prognosis: we examine the rationale of the main players and movers in politics, economics and society.
We reach out to independent sources of information in most countries throughout the world. We want to be an indispensable source of intelligence for our consulting customers as well as for our readers. Our aim is to supply our readers and customers with insights to simplify their decision-making or simply confirming that they are on the right track.
We believe ground realities must drive the formulation of strategy and policy. In pursuit of this principle, Robert Lansing Institute conducts detailed, intelligence analysis from open source materials to provide the most accurate information on current conflicts, threats and important developments. Through reports and timely events, our research educates civilian, military leaders, the media, and public while helping advance an informed policy debate.
