Libya: Tribalism in the Qadhafi Regime, 1987

This is must-read sanitized intelligence analysis by CIA that was written in November, 1987 about tribalism in the Qadhafi regime. We think that this paper is very important to understand the developments in Libya since coup in 1969 till nowadays. The analysis gives an understanding of the mechanisms of interaction between the authorities and various tribes, the key contradictions between them and the Libyan regime. The processes described in the document today cause the social processes in Libyan society, which change the political landscape and inter-tribal relations after the collapse of the Gaddafi regime as a result of the Arab Spring.
